 Why MERV Ratings are Important

MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and is an industry-standard term used to rate a filter's efficacy.
JBMAC Service can help you choose the filter that suits your needs.
MERV Rating Explained
> Filters that have a LOWER rating have LESS of an impact on air flow, filtering out larger particles, hair and dust. These filters are 30 day filters and are the lowest cost option. These have a MERV Rating of 1 to 4.
> Filters that have a HIGHER rating have MORE of an impact on airflow as the number increases. Referred to as “90 Day Filters” these filters should be checked during that period and changed as needed. These have a MERV Rating of 5 to 20.
> These filters are very effective with dust, pollen, allergens, smoke, odors and household allergens. > The HVAC system blower works harder and uses more energy with the increase in of the higher MERV value.
> A rating of 5 to 8 is recommended in most cases.
> The industry standard is "MERV", Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. Manufacturers and retailers have attempted to simplify things by creating different comparison systems.
Examples: FPR (Filter Performance Rating), MPR (Micro Particle Rating), as well as a good/better/best system.
